Jorge Arreaza: ALBA-TCP supports all decolonization processes in the world

Caracas, May 14, 2024.- On Tuesday, the Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, on behalf of the regional bloc, supported all the processes of decolonization and de-neocolonization in the world.

From Salón Venezuela of the Círculo Militar in Caracas, where the Caribbean Regional Seminar of the United Nations (UN) Special Political and Decolonization Committee was held, Arreazareiterated the anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist nature of the Bolivarian Alliance, while calling for Puerto Rico to be able to exercise its rights as a free and sovereign State.

“The decolonization of Puerto Rico has always been a common and historic cause in the Latin American and Caribbean region (…) on one side, we have Cuba, a completely sovereign country that exercises its rights, and on the other side, Puerto Rico, which is being denied the exercise of its rights,” said the Secretary.

In that sense, he described as unacceptable the colonization of the “island of enchantment”; and denounced that the United States exerts control over the Puerto Rican people, thus preventing its development. “It is shameful that Puerto Rico does not even have the authority to make its own timely decisions”.

“From ALBA-TCP, we once again reaffirm our support and solidarity to the people of Puerto Rico;we look forward to the day when Puerto Rico finally sits at this table as one more free and sovereign State of Our America.”

Jorge Arreaza, Executive Secretary of the Alliance, informed this, expressing that the regional bloc has repeatedly condemned the genocide against the Palestinian people.

“Our Bolivarian Alliance has repeatedly condemned the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, demanding an immediate ceasefire and calling for the right to the existence of a sovereign Palestinian State”, Arreaza reaffirmed it via his X account.

Over 30,000 Palestinians have died since the beginning of the conflict, 124 of them in the last day, according to the Ministry of Health of that nation, which has detailed in a statement released on its Facebook account that “the result of the Israeli aggression amounts to 71,920 wounded”.

International community and ALBA-TCP countries demand freedom for Jorge Glas

Caracas, May 4, 2024.- In order to demand the release of the former vice president of Ecuador Jorge Glas, former presidents, politicians, academics, social activists and artists from several countries signed a letter on Saturday. In the letter, the signatories denounce that on the night of April 5, 2024, the President of the Republic of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, ordered the violent incursion of military and police forces against the Embassy of Mexico in Quito.

“This invasion of Mexican territory was intended to kidnap Jorge Glas, former vice president who has been under judicial and political persecution for seven years (a period he spent mostly in prison), and who was in political asylum in that diplomatic headquarters,” reads the letter, also signed by ALBA’s Executive Secretary, Jorge Arreaza.

The signatories of the document for the release of the former vice-president affirm that in the most recent Summit of Heads of State and Government of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) and in the ALBA-TCP Summit, “several regional leaders expressed themselves very clearly, calling for the release of Jorge Glas”.

Regarding this letter, Arreaza stressed that, “we demand respect for international law and the immediate return to the situation existing prior to the raid against the Mexican embassy, restoring the status of political asylum and the corresponding international protection”.

Jorge Glas was violently kidnapped and was subjected to torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. “At this moment, he is under constant death threats and his family, lawyers and colleagues are permanently harassed and intimidated,” they denounced in the letter.

They warned that this situation threatens the stability of the region, and demanded that Jorge Glas’s protection under international law be enforced.

The letter closes by requesting that the former vicepresident be granted the corresponding safe conduct authorization to travel safe and sound to Mexican territory.

The document was signed by Evo Morales, former president of Bolivia; Jorge Arreaza, ALBA Executive Secretary; Ernesto Samper, former president of Colombia; Silvio Rodríguez, Cuban musician; Maribel Aponte (Puerto Rico); Fernando Buen Abad (Mexico), Alberto Fernández, former president of Argentina, among others.

During his speech at the 23rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the regional integration bloc, held in Caracas, the Caribbean leader explained that ALBA-TCP is an organization of faith and reason, it is based on the freedoms and dignities of men and women, and also defends economic justice and equity for workers, peasants and producers of wealth; all of which corresponds to the contents of the preamble of the Constitution of his nation.

He reminded that the founders of the Alliance, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, insisted on solidarity, complementarity and reciprocity as values of the mechanism, for which he thanked the governments of these two countries for having been key and examples of these founding principles.

Gonsalves began his speech by thanking Venezuela for the invitation and expressing that it would remain engraved “in the hearts and minds of our peoples for the praiseworthy work that Venezuela, its people, the Bolivarian Revolution, have done for the benefit of our Caribbean and Our America, and for humanity as a whole”.

The Prime Minister expressed his solidarity with Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, which are suffering aggressions, blockades and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States, reiterating to the rest of the authorities present that “our duty is to defend the governments and revolutionary processes in each of these three countries”, because they are processes that undoubtedly aim to improve the lives of their peoples, defend their independence and sovereignty, and have better opportunities for the development and progress of their peoples.

The leader referred to the millionaire resources approved by the United States to continue fueling conflicts in the world, stating that monopoly capitalism cannot exist without wars, “the war economy is essential for its survival”.

The ambassador highlighted that the region’s natural resources are an invaluable asset, comparable to oxygen for the planet. “We have the resources, the people and the educational institutions.”

On the other hand, Wilson stressed the importance of ALBA-TCP as a platform to promote regional unity and cooperation. “It is important for us to support ALBA-TCP because it promotes unity and cooperation, and we all know that as sovereign states we have the right to make our own decisions.”

Although he acknowledged that member countries may have some differences, Wilson emphasized that they also share many common goals and challenges. “If we work together,” he said, “we will be able to solve many challenges”.

ALBA-TCP consolidates its role as founder of the new international order

For the construction of the new world order, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) consolidates itself as the forefront of the geopolitical structure with a multicentric and pluripolar vision that defines “the alternative world, the new humanity”.

The statement was made by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, who positively assessed the “great civilizing changes in the conscience of the world”, as well as the emergence of new values to which ALBA-TCP is already engaged.

“There are great civilizing changes in the conscience of the world, new values are emerging in a new world, in a new international order, and ALBA is already engaged with the new power and with that civilization. I believe that ALBA can consider itself as part of the founding countries and regions of the new emerging world, the new multipolar, pluricentric international order”, he emphasized during the opening ceremony of the 23rd Summit of Heads of State and Government ALBA-TCP.

From the Miraflores Palace, located in Caracas, he reiterated that the world is moving towards “a great civilizing change”, which is in line with the new configuration of world power, where new emerging powers are arising “which bring the breath of centuries in their creative force”, such as the BRICS group.

In this sense, he stressed that BRICS are consolidating themselves as “a great integrating group for the diversity of continents and regions”, being a reliable example of the new emerging world.

“Let us be conscious of where we are, who we are, where we come from, the strength that we gather here, the strength of the peoples,” he reflected.

President Daniel Ortega: ALBA-TCP is a weapon for peace

Caracas, April 24, 2024.- During his attendance this Wednesday at the 23rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), held in the Venezuelan capital, the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, urged to strengthen the struggle for peace, while he condemned imperialist actions intended to perpetuate wars in the world.

“ALBA-TCP is a weapon for peace, for the unity of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples who are fighting a battle where the imperialists of the Earth are trying to undermine, and infiltrate in order to break Latin American unity,” the Sandinista commander said.

Ortega mentioned the approval of billions of dollars by the United States to continue the war, the genocide against the Palestinian people, as well as funds for the Ukrainian regime, that is, “funds for death, funds for war”.

In his speech, he recalled that the only power that has launched atomic bombs is the American empire.

The President of Nicaragua joined other ALBA-TCP heads of state in condemning and calling for an end to the imperialist invasion, threats and blockades; however, “they continue to intensify their aggressions. The empire totally disrespects world’s opinion, the American people’s opinion and even the opinion of a large part of the people of Israel, who are against these crimes, and when the United Nations votes for Palestine to occupy its seat as a State”, the United States vetoes the proposal, refusing to recognize the State of Palestine.

“To the imperialists we say: nobody surrenders here!”, the revolutionary commander stated.

Grenada condemns global injustices at the 23rd ALBA-TCP Summit

Caracas, April 24, 2024.- Grenada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, Joseph Andall, called for mutual assistance and condemned the injustices affecting the peoples of Latin America and the world.

During the 23rd Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) held in Caracas, Venezuela, Andall said that “the so-called civilized world continues to clearly show its hypocrisy” in the face of intolerable crimes such as the genocide in Palestine and the intervention in Haiti.

“In the end, it is only mutual respect and empathy for common issues that can strengthen the multilateral space and give us a better position to face global challenges,” he said.

The minister took the opportunity to condemn the illegal blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and demanded the removal of that sister nation from the unilateral list of countries that allegedly support terrorism.

Regarding the situation in Palestine, he described the Israeli occupation as “a stain on the conscience of mankind”.

“One of the most advanced machineries is on one side and, on the other, civilians are dying and as always we only see hypocrisy,” lamented Andall, who called on the peoples of the world to lobby for their governments to condemn these attacks. “We are a small country, but we understand the principles of humanity,” he added.

On the other hand, he stressed the importance of ALBA as a platform to address common challenges and strengthen regional unity.

Andall praised the role of the Bolivarian countries in promoting integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, and highlighted how the exchange of knowledge and experiences among members offers unique opportunities for technical cooperation.
