President Daniel Ortega: ALBA-TCP is a weapon for peace

Caracas, April 24, 2024.- During his attendance this Wednesday at the 23rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), held in the Venezuelan capital, the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, urged to strengthen the struggle for peace, while he condemned imperialist actions intended to perpetuate wars in the world.

“ALBA-TCP is a weapon for peace, for the unity of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples who are fighting a battle where the imperialists of the Earth are trying to undermine, and infiltrate in order to break Latin American unity,” the Sandinista commander said.

Ortega mentioned the approval of billions of dollars by the United States to continue the war, the genocide against the Palestinian people, as well as funds for the Ukrainian regime, that is, “funds for death, funds for war”.

In his speech, he recalled that the only power that has launched atomic bombs is the American empire.

The President of Nicaragua joined other ALBA-TCP heads of state in condemning and calling for an end to the imperialist invasion, threats and blockades; however, “they continue to intensify their aggressions. The empire totally disrespects world’s opinion, the American people’s opinion and even the opinion of a large part of the people of Israel, who are against these crimes, and when the United Nations votes for Palestine to occupy its seat as a State”, the United States vetoes the proposal, refusing to recognize the State of Palestine.

“To the imperialists we say: nobody surrenders here!”, the revolutionary commander stated.

Grenada condemns global injustices at the 23rd ALBA-TCP Summit

Caracas, April 24, 2024.- Grenada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, Joseph Andall, called for mutual assistance and condemned the injustices affecting the peoples of Latin America and the world.

During the 23rd Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) held in Caracas, Venezuela, Andall said that “the so-called civilized world continues to clearly show its hypocrisy” in the face of intolerable crimes such as the genocide in Palestine and the intervention in Haiti.

“In the end, it is only mutual respect and empathy for common issues that can strengthen the multilateral space and give us a better position to face global challenges,” he said.

The minister took the opportunity to condemn the illegal blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and demanded the removal of that sister nation from the unilateral list of countries that allegedly support terrorism.

Regarding the situation in Palestine, he described the Israeli occupation as “a stain on the conscience of mankind”.

“One of the most advanced machineries is on one side and, on the other, civilians are dying and as always we only see hypocrisy,” lamented Andall, who called on the peoples of the world to lobby for their governments to condemn these attacks. “We are a small country, but we understand the principles of humanity,” he added.

On the other hand, he stressed the importance of ALBA as a platform to address common challenges and strengthen regional unity.

Andall praised the role of the Bolivarian countries in promoting integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, and highlighted how the exchange of knowledge and experiences among members offers unique opportunities for technical cooperation.

Bolivia urges ALBA-TCP to take firm action against genocide in Gaza

Caracas, April 24, 2024.- During the 23rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), held in Caracas, Venezuela, the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce, urged the regional bloc to take firm and decisive action in the face of the unacceptable genocide taking place in the Gaza Strip as a result of the aggression of Israel’s occupying forces against the Palestinian people, which is “a bloody and hateful slaughter like never before seen in the recent history of mankind”.

In this regard, he proposed that the ALBA-TCP Executive Secretariat study the possibility of setting up an international brigade to support the Palestinian people, with specialized staff in disaster response and health care professionals, and then to expand its scope to education, construction, food production, and science and technology; offer scholarships at undergraduate and graduate level for Palestinian students and invite the State of Palestine to join as a full member of the Alliance.

He stated that, a few months away from the 20th anniversary of the integration mechanism, “we are facing a unique opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the founding principles of promoting Latin Americanism through the social, economic, political and cultural development of our region”.

He also affirmed that, since its founding in 2004, the Alliance has been a beacon of hope for the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting brotherhood, solidarity, cooperation, complementarity and reciprocity.

President Arce recalled the recent condemnation by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) of the violent raid by the Ecuadorian police on the headquarters of the Mexican Embassy in Quito, “an unprecedented event in international law that should not be forgotten or remain in impunity”. He expressed solidarity with the Mexican people, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena.

During his speech, he also rejected the blockades and imposition of unilateral coercive measures against several countries in the region, including Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, highlighting certain events such as the illegal seizure by the United States of an aircraft belonging to the Venezuelan company EMTRASUR and how the United States reverted Venezuela’s license to carry out oil and gas operations.

In view of these imperial measures, the Bolivian leader demanded respect for the principle of equal rights and free self-determination of peoples enshrined in the United Nations Charter; the cessation of the interference and interventionist policies of the U.S. government and the European Union towards Latin America and the Caribbean; the cessation of the imposition of blockades, embargoes and unilateral coercive measures against our peoples and other peoples of the world; the removal of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism; the cessation of U.S. financing of the military plans approved to continue the genocide against the Palestinian people, to force a military solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Saint Lucia also condemned the interference in the region by the United States and other nations.
