Unity and multilateralism at the core of debates at Gathering for a World Social Alternative

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- Marta Martín, member of the United Left of Spain, warned on Thursday that “the United States, imperialism and its servants want to create a unipolar world to continue sustaining their hegemony”.

Martín said this during the conference: “The Need for a Common Project”, held in the context of the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, taking place at the Meliá Hotel, in Caracas, from April 18 to 20.

She stressed that, in view of the international situation, in which confrontation and a return to the system of blocs are being attempted, “it is important that we take action based on unity and multilateralism”.

Manolo de los Santos, another speaker at this conference, and member of Peoples Dispatch (United States), affirmed that in the struggle for a new world, progressive peoples not only want to debate, but also to have the necessary strategy to defeat capitalism.

On the other hand, he stressed that “we must recognize the resistance and armed struggle of the Palestinian people, and the political and diplomatic support of friendly countries, such as the ALBA-TCP countries”.

On April 18, 19 and 20, Caracas is the venue for the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, an opportunity to promote unity and the design of an agenda to protect the Latin American and Caribbean regions against the imperial attacks of this new time.

Jorge Arreaza deplores actions against Chilean mayor Óscar Daniel Jadue

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- This Thursday, during the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, the executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, made a brief statement about the recent event concerning the mayor of Recoleta in Santiago, Chile, Óscar Daniel Jadue Jadue, who was prevented from leaving his country to travel to Venezuela for this event.

Likewise, Arreaza informed that according to the press release issued this Thursday morning, Prosecutor Johanna Herrera of the Chilean Public Prosecutor’s Office, “told the mayor that if he traveled, she would issue an arrest warrant against him based on the suspicion that he might apply for asylum in that country”.

Hence, through his X official account Jadue stated that “I do not have any injunction. The Prosecutor threatens me with arrest. This is an attack on democracy and an authoritarian and unconstitutional measure”, he posted, while stressing that he will exercise “all legal actions to stop these arbitrary actions”.

In the same vein, Jorge Arreaza expressed that “we deplore and we are shocked that they basically took him off the plane, but on the other hand it makes us laugh, since it is clear that we and our people know Daniel Jadue better than them, he will always face Chilean justice and will be cleared of any accusation, since he is a good, honest man and a true man of the people”.

Vice President of Venezuela: the huge imperial threat is either defeated or it defeats us

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- During the Gathering for a World Social Alternative taking place in Caracas on April 18, 19 and 20, the Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, raised her voice for the peoples, as well as the dangers and threats besetting the world.

In this way, the Executive Vice President expressed that “the dangers and threats to humanity are currently very serious. Given the current context of the world, we are extremely concerned about the real threats facing humanity, which is capitalism; the climate situation is the product of a predatory model such as capitalism”.

Likewise, during her speech, Rodriguez showed some illustrations explaining that global CO2 emissions increased worldwide in 2023; “in fact, it was the warmest year on the planet”.

Rodriguez also explained that inequality is a huge problem in our continent, “that is why the answer must come from our region: Latin America and the Caribbean.

Regarding Palestine, she added that “there are more than 30 thousand dead, most of them children and women; it is a genocide, where artificial intelligence has also been employed for the extermination of a people. Social networks are being used to annihilate peoples and to spread despair in humanity”.

Delcy Rodríguez highlighted that 31% of the countries in the world are today subject to unilateral coercive measures, with the aim of extorting. “They intend to rule Venezuela through licenses, that blackmail that outrages but also makes us laugh a lot (…) no rude and barbaric empires stop Venezuela”.

She closed with a call to the peoples: “the hope of humanity lies in all of us, it is in Cuba that has endured so much; in Palestinians, a people that continues to struggle on; and the Venezuelan people, despite the difficulties; this is the path, to understand that the huge threat is either defeated or it defeats us”.

Social movements propose ALBA-TCP to strengthen popular organization as an alternative to the global crisis

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- The member of the International People’s Assembly of Mexico, Stephanie Weatherbee Brito, expressed her gratitude this Thursday to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and the Simon Bolivar Institute (ISB) for the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, a meeting she described as essential for the voices of social movements to be able to freely express themselves and speak the truth.

During the seminar: “One imperialism, one enemy”, held in the context of the meeting being held at the Meliá Hotel in Caracas until April 20, Weatherbee Brito stressed that the popular organization is the only way to get the world out of the current crisis.

“The existing ideological confusion is what feeds imperialism. The neoliberal ideology has blurred our eyes,” said the Mexican leader.

Meanwhile, Argentine researcher and philosopher Nahuel Michalski concluded this debate by remarking that “if we do not succeed in culturally transforming the mentality of many of our people, we will never achieve our goal, and we will have plowed the sea”.

In this regard, both speakers urged ALBA-TCP to continue promoting unity and organization in the midst of the imperial onslaught.

Juan Carlos Monedero: The U.S. has established the blockade against the peoples of the world.

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- “The Decadent Civilization” was presented at the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, organized by the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA TCP) and the Simon Bolivar Institute (ISB), which brought together social movements, leaders and activists for unity and the construction of a common agenda against imperialism”.

In its first part, Juan Carlos Monedero, political expert and delegate from Spain, stated that “we live in a nihilistic world where commitment does not go beyond oneself (…) and we are fighting against giants. Do not forget that you can never cover the sun with one finger”.

Likewise, Monedero stressed: “let us not forget that the blockade has been perpetrated against the peoples with the support of the United States (…) we are fighting against a brutal media attack and we are tired and exhausted of all this onslaught. The world has turned “ugly”, but do not forget that the people who have a project are always the ones who survive”.

Meanwhile, Colombian anthropologist Carlos Rosero said that “there is no capitalism without racism and racism always leads to genocide, hate crime; America should be a racism-free zone; that should be the premise”.

The Colombian added that “enslavement and trafficking are at the base of the primitive accumulation of capital; we are defending America to be a zone of peace, but we must also demand for it to be a zone free of racism”.

In the same vein, Alina Duarte, from the Mexican delegation, highlighted that in order to talk about the decadent civilization we start from several points of view, we are clear that production means are changing; it is necessary to continue analyzing these monsters of capitalism”.

“Today bots are paid in social networks to attack us from all sides in all countries, but we must make a deeply militant and anti-fascist communication, we must become the communicational guerrillas, turn ourselves into the communicational armed wing; and keep training ourselves and training others,” Duarte concluded.

Likewise, closing the series of presentations, Guatemala’s delegate, Carlos Barrientos said that “Commander Fidel Castro warned us in 1992 about climate change, and said that it was too late to take action; nowadays, reports show the seriousness of the situation, but they also hide realities from us”.

He pointed out with great euphoria that “the future has already arrived, it is already happening and we are already suffering from Climate Change; when there is an emphasis on the environment, what is really at stake is that capitalism has led us to the point of taking away from us the possibility of continuing fighting for life”.

Irene León: Latin America and the Caribbean must resist against imperial attacks

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- We must continue with the dream of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP),” said Irene León, sociologist and political analyst from Ecuador, during the seminar “Dangers and Threats to Humanity,” held at the Gathering for a World Social Alternative.

In her speech at the Meliá Hotel in Caracas, León said that the Alliance is an indispensable mechanism for strengthening multilateralism, especially in these times “when corporate power seeks to control all economies”.

She warned that the regional alliances of Latin America and the Caribbean should be the wall restraining the new economic geopolitics that seeks to generate an even more aggressive capitalist system: “to sell chaos”.

On the other hand, at the gathering organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and the Simon Bolivar Institute, the Puerto Rican sociologist Ramon Grosfoguel said that the United States has escalated its attack against Latin America in order to completely recover the region’s markets in view of China’s development.

Grosfoguel said that difficult years lie ahead, “because the United States is a wounded tiger, and a wounded beast is capable of doing anything crazy (…) We cannot ignore a scenario like this and we must know how we are going to smartly resist”.

Meanwhile, Rania Khalek, U.S. journalist, also a speaker at the seminar, said that the United States has shortened life expectancy as part of its policy to maintain imperialism.

Atilio Borón: It is essential to be present in the media to fight imperialism

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- “We are living a very hard period, a period with a wounded imperialism but it is not over yet (…) There is a ruthless persecution triggered against any country and spokespersons speaking against the U.S. empire”.

Such was the words of Argentine sociologist and political expert Atilio Borón, during the Seminar on Dangers and Threats to Humanity, during the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, which will be held until April 20 at the Meliá Hotel in Caracas, organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and the Simón Bolívar Institute.

During his speech he stressed that today the war is being waged in the media “and if we do not understand this, we will continue to be victims of the empire. The media blatantly lie. Our activism in the networks is fundamental to fight imperialism,” he said.

In his opinion, this attack by the United States against any country opposing its interests can be stopped through regional integration and the promotion of alternatives that strengthen the multipolar international system.

In this sense, he stressed that the Alliance is an essential regional union mechanism to counter the new attacks emerging within capitalism and its allied countries.

Additionally, William Castillo, director of the Venezuelan Anti-Blockade Observatory and one of the speakers at this seminar, stated that Venezuela cannot accept foreign interference, and claimed that the sanctions against Venezuela, reaffirmed again by the U.S. Government against the country, will not have the impact they had in 2016 and 2017, since the country is now strengthened.

He said that despite the fact that Venezuela is complying with the dialogue process and the Barbados agreements, the United States continues to intensify its policy of sanctions against the Bolivarian Republic.

Gathering of social movements and leaders for a Social Alternative begins in Caracas

Caracas, April 18, 2024.- Today, Thursday, the Gathering for a World Social Alternative began in Caracas, an open debate that will be held until April 20 in the Venezuelan capital, and it is organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and the Simón Bolívar Institute (ISB in Spanish).

From the Manzanares Room at the Meliá Hotel in Caracas, the Executive Secretary of the Alliance, Jorge Arreaza, welcomed delegates from 60 countries, and stated that all peoples are called to unite and to create an alternative agenda to “hit hard at capitalism”.

“Only we can present an alternative to the world before a declining imperialism, which, like a wounded beast, is lashing out (…) there is no more time for pettiness. This is the moment to be united”.

Arreaza mentioned that one of the purposes of this meeting is to be able to present the document World Social Alternative, as well as to develop a “diagnosis of the monster and its moment, the dangers of imperialism at this moment. But also, an agenda of education, culture, organization, social transformation”.

“Today we have to bury all the weapons of capital, all the weapons of imperialism,” Arreaza affirmed, while stressing that it is with union and taking over all political spaces that the imperial clutches can be overthrown.

Meanwhile, the president of the Simon Bolivar Institute, Carlos Ron, said that the Gathering for a Social Alternative is key to raise battle and justice flags in the world.

“This is a meeting to remember the spirit of unity and ALBA, led by giants such as Comandante Fidel Castro and President Hugo Chávez,” he said.

This April 18, 19 and 20 Caracas is the venue for the Gathering for a World Social Alternative, an opportunity to promote unity and the design of an agenda to protect the Latin American and Caribbean regions against the imperial attacks of this new time.

World Gathering for a Social Alternative begins this Thursday in Caracas

Caracas, April 17, 2024.- This April 18, 19 and 20, Caracas will host the World Gathering for a Social Alternative, an opportunity to promote unity and the design of an agenda to protect the Latin American and Caribbean region against the imperial attacks of this new time.

This event – organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and the Simón Bolívar Institute (ISB) – will bring together member countries of the bloc, leaders and social movements of the region in activities and working meetings to be held at the Meliá Hotel in Caracas.

On Thursday, April 18, the event begins with a cultural presentation and welcoming remarks by the ALBA Executive Secretary, Jorge Arreaza.

Subsequently, there will be seminars on Dangers and Threats to Humanity; Decadent Civilization; One Imperialism, One Enemy; and The Need for a Common Project.

On April 19, the gathering will focus on two outstanding debates: The principle of Unity as a changing element, led by the Executive Secretary of the Alliance, Jorge Arreaza; and Hyper-imperialism and a World Social Alternative, led by Vijay Prashad, of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research.

On the other hand, members of ALBA-TCP, ISB and leaders of social movements will organize solidarity calls this Friday with Palestine, Cuba, Haiti and Jorge Glass, leader and former vice-president of Ecuador.

Following the agenda, the Seminar of Anti-imperialist Youth in Struggle and for Solidarity will be held on Saturday 20, starting at 9:00 in the morning. The World Gathering for a Social Alternative will be broadcasted on all ALBA-TCP social networks, in line with the Alliance’s vision of fully connecting with the peoples.

Likewise, this debate is fundamental to design strategies to counter the new and dangerous form of intervention by U.S. imperialism in the region, which is intensifying the so-called sanctions against Venezuela and other sister countries in the world.

The ALBA-TCP Executive Secretariat and the Simón Bolívar Institute affirm that the purpose of these sessions is to propose an agenda of concrete actions that the peoples could implement to face imperialism and its unsustainable economic and social model, and thus find common ground that could lead to collective solutions to the real problems of the peoples and to the construction of a new civilizing model.

ALBA-TCP Executive Secretary calls on social movements to engage in permanent communication

La Guaira, April 16, 2024.- As part of the World Gathering for a Social Alternative, to be held in Caracas on April 18 and 19, there was a meeting with social movements in La Guaira state, in the Venezuelan central-north coast, where the Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, raised the need to “create this opportunity to listen to each other, to develop a method of permanent interaction between the ALBA governments and the peoples”.

During his speech, the Diplomat highlighted that the world is going through a very dangerous moment, defined as hyper-imperialism which implies the decline of a model, a process difficult to predict, so “it is time to gather (…) as peoples we have the historical duty to put aside our differences and groups and agree on everything we can”.

Arreaza urged to start with a minimum common agenda, a coordinated agenda of the movements and peoples of the world. “This moment forces us, compels us to get the peoples organized and assume the corresponding role at the forefront of the processes,” the Executive Secretary stressed.

During the meeting, Llanisca Lugo, member of the Martin Luther King Center, agreed that this is a historic moment for the movements to strengthen themselves in order to create a common agenda with concrete proposals.

Irene León, a Ecuadorian political analyst, stated that ALBA-TCP should be an “axis for the joint coordination of all our peoples regardless of the countries”, while highlighting the role of Commander Hugo Chávez as a promoter of Latin American integration, not only of the Alliance, but also of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which emerged with their own particularities in response to the great challenge of building a multipolar and pluricentric world.

He explained that all integration organizations in the world focus, at their core, on uniting to achieve greater competitiveness, to capitalize, which is why ALBA-TCP is unique, because since its creation it has been proposed as an anti-capitalist alternative, it has the capacity to propose something different from the free trade of the capitalist model, such as the People’s Trade Treaty.

León added that the regional bloc, made up of 10 countries, proposes values contrary to competition, such as solidarity, economic complementarity and reciprocity.

He urged work on a financial structure and a regional financial institution as a condition for the implementation of an alternative model, far from capitalist speculation, that meets the socioeconomic needs of the region.
