Jorge Arreaza: ALBA-TCP supports all decolonization processes in the world

Caracas, May 14, 2024.- On Tuesday, the Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, on behalf of the regional bloc, supported all the processes of decolonization and de-neocolonization in the world.

From Salón Venezuela of the Círculo Militar in Caracas, where the Caribbean Regional Seminar of the United Nations (UN) Special Political and Decolonization Committee was held, Arreazareiterated the anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist nature of the Bolivarian Alliance, while calling for Puerto Rico to be able to exercise its rights as a free and sovereign State.

“The decolonization of Puerto Rico has always been a common and historic cause in the Latin American and Caribbean region (…) on one side, we have Cuba, a completely sovereign country that exercises its rights, and on the other side, Puerto Rico, which is being denied the exercise of its rights,” said the Secretary.

In that sense, he described as unacceptable the colonization of the “island of enchantment”; and denounced that the United States exerts control over the Puerto Rican people, thus preventing its development. “It is shameful that Puerto Rico does not even have the authority to make its own timely decisions”.

“From ALBA-TCP, we once again reaffirm our support and solidarity to the people of Puerto Rico;we look forward to the day when Puerto Rico finally sits at this table as one more free and sovereign State of Our America.”
