ALBA-TCP expresses its concern and condemns acts of violence in Colombia

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expresses its concern regarding the acts of violence perpetrated since April 28th in the sister Republic of Colombia, where there have been victims of physical violence, arbitrary detentions, reports of disappearances, sexual abuse, around thirty-one casualties and more than a thousand wounded.

The Alliance – in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law, respect for the self-determination of peoples, social justice and peace – condemns the excessive use of force by security agents of the Colombian State and urges its authorities to protect human rights, the right to life and personal safety.

The use of violence does not solve the structural causes of situations of social injustice.

ALBA-TCP member countries reiterate their repudiation to any kind of violence and pray for the peace of the Colombian people, hoping that dialogue and common sense will always prevail.
