The Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) welcome the actions of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in response to the request for political asylum submitted to the Kingdom of Spain by the former presidential candidate of the Venezuelan extreme right-wing, Edmundo González Urrutia, which was granted on September 7, 2024.

ALBA-TCP applauds this democratic act, in strict compliance with the rules of International Law, which is an unequivocal demonstration of the Venezuelan government’s genuine interest in guaranteeing peace and tranquility to the Venezuelan people.

The countries of the Alliance welcome the fact that the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is resolving its internal affairs in accordance with its own legally stipulated time-lapse, laws and institutions, in full exercise of its sovereignty and self-determination, in compliance with the international legal framework.

The Bolivarian Alliance reiterates its support for the Venezuelan people and government, cradle of the Convention on Diplomatic Asylum, and demands that internal and external extremist factors, which aim at chaos and destabilization, respect the decisions of this sovereign and independent country.
