ALBA-TCP supports Cuba’s right to build its own model without interference

ALBA-TCP

The member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) reaffirm the limited nature of the new U.S. government regulations on Cuba, announced on May 28, to allegedly favor the private sector, since they do not modify the fundamental content of the blockade or the additional sanctions that constitute the maximum pressure policy against the sister nation.

The design of these measures is part of regime change purposes, in open violation of the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other States, sovereign equality and the right of peoples to self-determination.

The U.S. government should listen to the demands of the international community and its own public opinion to lift the blockade and exclude Cuba from the arbitrary, selective and unilateral list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, which results in other measures of economic coercion that severely harm the well-being of the entire Cuban population.

The ALBA-TCP member States reject the expressed intention of U.S. officials to deprive the Cuban public sector, which guarantees essential services such as education, health, culture, sports and others, from resources to all Cubans, including the private sector. Cuba’s development in these key areas has been recognized worldwide and has benefited multiple countries through solidarity and international cooperation.

The Alliance ratifies that the Cuban people and government have the right to build the political, social and economic model they decide, including the harmonious development of different forms of management and ownership, without the shadow of external interference, and without detriment to their independence and sovereignty.
