The member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), strongly reject the recent declaration of coercive, unilateral, interventionist measures in violation of international law by the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union against nineteen representatives of the various branches of government of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

These actions represent a clear violation of international law and an unacceptable interventionist application that does not contribute in any way to the development of the Venezuelan people, as the Special Rapporteur on Unilateral Coercive Measures of the Human Rights Council, Alena Douhan, stated after her recent visit to Venezuela, who considered that these measures have had devastating effects on food, health and education in the country.

Likewise, this Special Rapporteur urged the U.S. administration and the European Union to lift the unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela, given the serious effects they have on the enjoyment of human rights of the entire Venezuelan population.

The ALBA-TCP countries express their solidarity and support to the Venezuelan State and people committed to peace and at the same time, call on the international community to reject this type of actions and to defend the principles of respect for sovereignty, self-determination and independence of peoples.
