ALBA-TCP rejects statements from the Office of President Javier Milei regarding the situation in Bolivia

The Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), reject the outrageous official statement issued by the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic, Javier Milei, regarding the attempted coup d’état in Bolivia, issued on June 30, 2024.

President Milei questions the word of a legitimate government, elected by the sovereign will of its people, calling the coup attempt of June 26th “not very credible”, while Bolivia lived hours of deep turmoil. This interfering, incendiary and unsupportive position of the Argentine president demonstrates his imperialist and coup-plotting tendencies and his aversion to the self-determination of peoples and irresponsibly contravenes the principle shared in the region of keeping Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of peace.

The statement issued by the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic demonstrates the political inconsistencies of the Argentine government, when on June 26, its own Foreign Minister expressed on the social network X, that governments “are not changed by coups d’état and that democracy is not negotiable”.

ALBA-TCP demands respect for the sister nation of Bolivia, a member of this Alliance, victim of another attempted coup d’état, provoked by forces that have no other purpose than to unleash intrigues and chaos and destabilization in the region, with the self-confessed goal of plundering and seizing its valuable natural resources.

The Bolivarian Alliance reiterates its firm support for the Bolivian people and President Luis ArceCatacora, and hopes that the Argentine government will recover its sovereign voice and stop being an instrument under the tutelage of foreign interests that seek to undermine democracy and peace in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
