The Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) express their solidarity to the people and government of the Federative Republic of Brazil after the heavy rains and floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

This historic catastrophe, which exceeds the 1941 floods and is the fourth environmental disaster of its kind in a single year, is a call to continue fighting against the devastating consequences of climate change and to join efforts to mitigate risks in such situations.

The Alliance is closely following the rescue operations and supports all the efforts being made by the Brazilian State led by President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva to provide a rapid response to the emergency and assistance to the affected families.

ALBA-TCP deeply regrets the human and material losses, expresses its condolences and reiterates its full support to the Brazilian people and government.
