ALBA-TCP rejects U.S. law against the Republic of Nicaragua

ALBA-TCP

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) rejects the interventionist action of the U.S. administration against the Republic of Nicaragua by enacting on November 10th, 2021, the “Reinforcing Nicaragua’s Adherence to Conditions for Electoral Reform Act” (RENACER).

ALBA-TCP reaffirms its rejection of all unilateral coercive measures violating International Law against sovereign States which affect their capacity to respond to contemporary threats and challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and which are detrimental to the well-being of their peoples.

It also reiterates the call made to all States by the United Nations General Assembly in its Resolution 75/181 to “cease adopting or implementing any unilateral measures not in accordance with international law, international humanitarian law, the Charter of the United Nations and the norms and principles governing peaceful relations among States, in particular those of a coercive nature, with all their extraterritorial effects, which create obstacles to trade relations among States, thus impeding the full realization of the rights set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments, in particular the right of individuals and peoples to development”.

Nicaragua’s sovereignty lies with its people, who have manifested their democratic spirit and their recognition of the economic, social and political results of the Sandinista Revolution.

The Alliance reiterates its solidarity and support to the people and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua.
