ALBA-TCP rejects new unilateral coercive measures against Nicaragua

ALBA-TCP

The member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) condemn the recent decision by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Council of the European Union (EU) to impose unilateral coercive measures – in violation of international law – against Nicaraguan citizens and institutions in the context of the inauguration of the new term of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega Saavedra.

The Alliance rejects this kind of aggression, which violates the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations. The intensification of unilateral coercive measures and slanderous propaganda seek to harm a population also facing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Alliance reiterates its call to the international community to denounce this type of interference and reaffirms its solidarity and support to the people and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua, President Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Vice President Rosario Murillo.
