The member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), express their deepest sorrow at the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church and firm defender of peace, human dignity and social justice.
Pope Francis will be remembered for his closeness to the people, a son of Our America who courageously raised his voice in the face of the inequalities of the prevailing system and, with a spirit of service and deep humility, he revitalized hope in the hearts of millions of fervent believers and people around the world. He defended the poorest, the migrants, the workers, the indigenous peoples and all those who dream of a more just and humane world.
The Bolivarian Alliance recognizes in his legacy an example of humility for the construction of more supportive and inclusive societies in harmony with Mother Earth.
In these moments, ALBA joins in prayer the Latin American and Caribbean brothers and sisters who found in Francis a sincere guidance. His memory will remain alive in those who work for a world of justice, peace and brotherhood among peoples.
“Social justice requires that we fight against poverty, inequality, lack of jobs, land and housing; against those who deny social and labor rights; and against the prevailing culture of using others and depriving them of their dignity”.
