ALBA-TCP condemns vandalism and fire at Venezuelan Consular Headquarters in Bogota

ALBA-TCP

The Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) hereby strongly condemn the continuous acts of vandalism and fire at the Consular Headquarters of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela located in Bogota, Colombia, the latter occurring on April 18th, 2022.

The Alliance is seriously concerned about the violation of international treaties such as the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations and on Consular Relations whereby: “the receiving State shall, even in case of armed conflict, respect and protect the consular premises, together with the property of the consular post and the consular archives” (Article 27 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations). In this regard, it supports the steps to be taken by the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to guarantee the protection and immunity of its diplomatic and consular headquarters.

ALBA-TCP reiterates its position condemning these events and urges compliance with international law and international conventions regulating diplomatic and consular relations.
