ALBA-TCP commemorates the Bicentennial of the founding of the Republic of Bolívar and congratulates the people and government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
ALBA-TCP celebrates with profound emotion and vivid memory the bicentennial of the founding of the Republic of Bolívar, proclaimed on August 6, 1825, by the Deliberative Assembly of Chuquisaca, convened by the Grand Marshal of Ayacucho, Antonio José de Sucre, at the behest of Liberator Simón Bolívar in honor of the first anniversary of the epic victory at the Battle of Junín.
That day, Bolivia was born, the beloved daughter of the Liberator, originated from the intersection of indigenous courage, popular passion, and the liberating vision of the liberators. With Bolívar in the soul and Sucre in the ground, a new homeland was planted in the heart of America, woven with the invisible thread of justice, dignity, and self-determination.
The Republic of Bolívar was the first institutional spark of what is now the Plurinational State of Bolivia. Since that founding declaration, a rebellious, diverse nation has been forged, deeply conscious of its role in the struggle for a free and united Latin America, representing a new, more inclusive, participatory, and community-based state model of great historical, social, cultural, and legal significance, which recognizes the pre-colonial existence of indigenous and peasants.
Today, two centuries later, Bolivia represents the moral vanguard of Our America. From Túpac Katari to Bartolina Sisa, from Juana Azurduy to the indigenous, rural, and urban communities that resisted and defeated neoliberalism, the spirit of August 1825 is more alive than ever.
From ALBA-TCP, from the peoples who struggle and dream of social justice and true sovereignty, we join this historic commemoration with gratitude and hope. The birth of Bolivia was also the birth of a common cause that continues to live on: the Great Homeland.
