Following the pattern of unfounded and ideologized aggressions, the government of the United States is committing a new attack against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, by announcing the imposition of extortive trade measures to affect the sound running of the Venezuelan economy, with the clear objective of destabilizing the institutions and peace in the sister nation.
The ALBA-TCP member countries categorically reject the announcement by the U.S. Administration to impose tariffs on countries that trade hydrocarbons with Venezuela. Such a measure violates the most elementary rules of international trade, as it constitutes an openly discriminatory treatment towards Venezuela, with the well-known purpose of affecting its national income and the health of its economy, causing suffering among its population.
The countries of the Bolivarian Alliance denounce the absurd motivation of this measure of economic aggression, which they intend to justify based on the criminalization and stigmatization of the Venezuelan migrant population, promoting the systematic violation of their human rights, disregarding the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, the International Law and the international treaties on respect for the migrant population.
In view of this inadmissible context, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) urges the international community to unequivocally condemn this illegal, criminal and hostile action by the U.S. government, which not only threatens the development and well-being of the Venezuelan people, but also constitutes a real threat to the peoples of all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
