ALBA-TCP rejects unilateral coercive measures of the Council of the European Union against nicaraguan citizens

The member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) strongly reject the recent announcement of unilateral coercive measures in violation of International law by the Council of the European Union against eight Nicaraguan citizens, such as Ms. Vice-President Rosario Murillo Zambrana and her son Juan Carlos Ortega Murillo, among others, made on August 2nd, 2021.

The Alliance demands to the European Union to lift the unilateral coercive measures against Nicaragua since they do not contribute in any way to the development of the Nicaraguan people.

The member countries of the Alliance hereby reaffirm its solidarity and support to the people and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua, to President Daniel Ortega Saavedra and to Vice-President Rosario Murillo.

The Alliance calls on the International community to reject this kind of intimidation actions and to defend the sovereignty, self-determination and political independence of the States.
