The Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) commemorate, together with the heroic people and government of the Republic of Cuba, the National Rebellion Day, a date of deep significance for the emancipating history of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The assault on the Cuarteles Moncada, in Santiago de Cuba, and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, in Bayamo, on July 26, 1953, was the beginning of a historic deed led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, which expressed the will of a people decided to break the chains of the dictatorial regime of Fulgencio Batista and open the road to social justice and national sovereignty. This deed became a beacon of dignity for the peoples of the South.
On this historic day, ALBA recognizes the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, a distinguished figure of that heroic deed who played a decisive role in the consolidation and defense of the Cuban Revolution. His firm leadership, his loyalty to the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and his commitment to the peoples of the South have been fundamental pillars in the construction of a dignified, free and sovereign nation.
The Alliance also extends its greetings to the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, for his leadership of the Revolutionary Government, who is backed with full firmness and solidarity. His political action honors the memory of those who paved the way on July 26.
ALBA reaffirms its firm and unwavering support for Cuba and strongly condemns the systematic campaign of media, political and economic aggressions promoted by the United States. These actions, covered with false concerns, merely represent the face of a failed policy of hostility and blockade, which for over six decades has sought to subdue a people that chose to be free and independent.
Cuba is not alone. The dignity of its people, forged in struggle, is part of the heritage of Latin American and Caribbean history, and its resistance will continue to be a symbol of hope for the peoples who fight for a just and united future.
