Venezuela strongly rejects the new sanctions imposed by the United States

Caracas, September 12, 2024 – The Venezuelan government has issued an official statement in response to the recent unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against Venezuelan state officials. In a categorical declaration, Venezuela describes these actions as a “new crime of aggression” and rejects them “in the strongest possible terms.”

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry’s statement condemns these measures, which are wrongly called “sanctions,” as “illegitimate and illegal.” It emphasizes that this action once again demonstrates “a total disregard for international law, the self-determination of peoples, and the democratic will of the Venezuelan people.

The document states that these measures “break and violate the agreements signed in Qatar” and describes them as an attempt to “impose a ‘regime change’ on an entire country and its political institutions as part of the Monroe Doctrine.”

The statement criticizes the U.S. government, describing it as “the most hostile and bloodthirsty power humanity has ever known, responsible for millions of murders worldwide with genocidal partners and a history of indifference to the needs of its own citizens.”

In response to these measures, Venezuela asserts that it will “continue to achieve progress, strengthen its economy, consolidate its participatory and leading democratic process, and, above all, reinforce its ties with other nations of the world that truly understand diplomacy, respect, and cooperation for mutual benefit.”

The Venezuelan government declares that the “multicentric and multipolar world” envisioned by the late President Hugo Chávez has become a reality, and no aggression or threat will separate the homeland of Bolívar from its leading role.
