The President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce, arrived on Thursday in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to take part in the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), to be held on the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Carabobo.
At the Simón Bolívar International Airport, the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, welcomed the Bolivian president, who is paying his first official visit to the South American nation.
Bolivia resumed its membership in the regional integration bloc following the victory of President Arce in the October 2020 elections. The de facto government of Jeannine Áñez, who usurped power after a coup against revolutionary leader Evo Morales, suspended Bolivia’s membership in ALBA-TCP and other integration organizations.
With the Plurinational State of Bolivia back to ALBA-TCP, the Presidents and Heads of Government who attended the 18th ALBA-TCP Summit unanimously voted to appoint former minister and permanent representative to the United Nations, Sacha Llorenti, as Executive Secretary, a post previously held by current Bolivia’s Vice-president David Choquehuanca.
The 19th ALBA-TCP Summit of Heads of State and Government will continue with the agreements endorsed in meetings held in 2021 with the aim of strengthening integration mechanisms in different strategic areas.
