Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Minister arrives in Venezuela to participate in 19th ALBA-TCP Summit

Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Immigration, Everly Chet Greene, arrived in Venezuela on Wednesday to participate in the 19th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), to be held in Caracas on June 24, when the Bicentennial of the Battle of Carabobo is commemorated.

At the Simón Bolívar International Airport, Venezuela’s Foreign Vice-minister for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi, welcomed Foreign Minister Chet Greene, who will attend the summit on behalf of Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

Antigua and Barbuda joined the regional integration bloc on June 24, 2019, so the Summit will coincide with the 12th anniversary of its ALBA-TCP membership.

The appointment of Bolivian diplomat Sacha Llorenti as ALBA-TCP Executive Secretary has contributed to make the bloc’s agenda of meetings more dynamic. In 2021, ALBA-TCP has held virtual meetings in areas such as health, agriculture, education, politics, women’s and gender issues, and communication and information, in addition to a meeting of Research Institutes of the Global South.

ALBA-TCP was created in 2004 and was promoted by then Presidents of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, and Cuba, Fidel Castro, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their first meeting in 1994.

The regional integration bloc is comprised by Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
