ALBA-TCP Ministers of Education share experiences and evaluate joint actions to improve educational systems

This Monday, the ministers of Education of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), held a telematic meeting in which they shared experiences on the good practices used to guarantee a high quality education standards in times of COVID-19, as well as joint strategies to improve education systems in the region.

During the videoconference framed in the 2021 Post-pandemic Work Plan, approved by the Heads of State and Government at the XVIII ALBA-TCP Summit, the Executive Secretary, Sasha Llorenti, explained that in the midst of the health crisis the modalities have diversified work for teachers, students and their families, with special emphasis on digital and pedagogical skills.

He also reported that since the creation of ALBA-TCP, 3,815,092 people have been literate, with the different educational and social welfare programs promoted by the member countries.

Educational experience in times of COVID-19

The Cuban Minister of Higher Education, José Ramón Saborido, expressed to his ALBA-TCP counterparts all the support to guarantee the fulfillment of the proposed objectives.

“We must stimulate the development of virtual experiences that promote humanist values, of solidarity”, he said.

The Republic of Nicaragua raised the need to adopt better strategies to maintain educational activity. “Without the role of the family it is almost impossible to move forward, methods that build learning models for life must be perfected”, said Minister Mirian Raudez Ramírez.

For his part, the Minister of Education of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Adrián Quelca Tarqui, thanked the invitation to the meeting and the countries that have contributed to eradicating literacy in Bolivia.

“It is necessary to generate spaces to exchange ideas and proposals on economic development, but also for the development of education”, he added.
